The gramophone is a wonderful invention, and gramophonists ate wonderful people, aa witness the wealth of <.pinion3 one hears at gramophone meetings and reads in the gramophone press, yet the problem of ideal sound reproduction is'still unsolved (writes a correspondent). Experiments with motors, .horns, sound-boxes, tone-arms, needles, and diaphragms ara being made continuously, and doubtless 6ome day we shall achieve the ideal when, if ever, we reach that goal, some credit will be due to the plodding amateur witli the "bea in his bonnet." Indian population of the United States to-day is believed to be as large as it was when Columbus discovered America. The figures show a total of 1146,962, counting all tribes, representing an increase of 2619 in the fisial year ended last June and a gain of 16,283 in the last 11 years. Oklahoma leads in Indian population, and New York contains the largest number of red men in the East.
