Almost simultaneously with the wonderful performance put up by the "Overland" in this Dominion bile Association, a number of "Overland" Endurance and Economy Trials were held in America. miles, averaging 34.1 miles "m, in seven days The above is the aggregate result of the most remarkable Economy-Endurance Run in the history of Motordom, and was successfully completed by "Overlands" during the week of September 29thOctober 6th. More than twenty-two times around the world in a week's time—-over two hundred "Overland" Cars competed with ignition switches, speedometers, and petrol tanks tightly sealed and padlocked. ■'' . Here are some of the individual Overland performances At Muskogee, Driver A. J. Edwards bent the gear shift lever to the floor and padlocked It in high gear, and then, included the Tallequah Hills and fcraggs Mountain in the daily itinerary. After driving 4,486 miles, at an average of 33 m.p.g., the "Overland" concluded its test by leaping an 18-foot gap, still locked in high gear. In Portland, Oregon, an "Overland" that had already done 17,000 miles.was chosen for the test. Despite the fact that the itinerary required it to be driven through the heaviest of city traffic four times a day, and that twenty-eight street stops had to be made in accordance with City By-laws, 2,547 miles were covered in 100 hours, at an average petrol consumption of 33.2 m.p.g. At Scranton, the driver was HANDCUFFED TO THE WHEEL for the duration of the run, one of the conditions being that the driver was not to lift his left hand from the wheel at any time during the test, which, in this instance, lasted for 75 hours. At Asheville, another driver was chained to the wheel for 100 hours—during the last few hours an ambulance followed the car—the chains being unlocked by the Chief of Police at the end of the run—average petrol consumption 33.85 m.p.g. The best individual performance of the Nation-wide test was scored in Los Angelos t where 48 miles per gallon was averaged oyer a run Of 2,468 miles in 100 hours. At San Antonio, Texas, another "Qverland" average 39.2 miles per gallon of Motor Spirit.
