TRAMWAY BOARD.

, ORDINARY MEETING. The Christchureh Tramway Board met yesterday. Present —Messrs HPearce (chairman), A. S. Taylor, Q. T. Booth, I). Sykes, J. Wood, E. W. White, J. A. Flesher and the Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C.

A letter from the A. and P. Association referring to the proposed new track and entrance to the grounds, was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee.

The South Brighton Progress League wrote asking that the bus fartes be reduced by the elimination of one section. The General Manager stated that the fares were 2d, 3d and 4d, for approximately half mile sections. The Sunday fares were Id higher in each case. The bus service' was not paying, he stated in reply to a question l .

On the motion of Mr Barr it was agreed that no alteration could be made. In reply to the Board's offer to cooperate in the use of a tar sprayer, the Riccarton. Borough Council,wrote stating that it was endeavouring to. hire a sprayer, and, if successful, would be glad to co-operate with the Board. The letter was received.

The St. Albans Burgesses' Association wrote asking the Board to receive a deputation in support of a request for an extension of the Shirley road line, linking up Barbadoes street with the North Beach line. The letter also drew attention to the dangerous speed of char-a-bancs travelling on Springfield rorvd. , Mr Walter moved that the deputation b© received.

Mr Taylor said that they did not wish to discourage people from laying their comolaints before the-Board, but it would be a waste of time for a deputation. to 1 attend to ask for an extension of the Shirley road -line, for the Board hud laid it down that it would not undertake anv additional extensions for some time. In his opinion the Board could not lay a single yard of new liiie -without the most serious consideration. The motion was carried.
