Nominations for the Marlborough Racing Club's Summer Meeting close to-dav.

Acceptances for the Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting arc due at 8 p.m. to-morrow, at which time also subscriptions are due for the Middle Park Plate.

Acting under instructions from the Health Department, apprentices and stable assistants under sixteen years of age were not allowed to attend the meeting at Rotorua on Saturday. The meeting at RiccuVton will probably be affected in a similar manner.

A mare named Gaby Deslys won 22} races at A.R.C. courses in Australia, and at her last start, a couple of weeks ago, carried number two saddle-cloth, showing she had retained her consistency all through her career. By Malt King from Royal Pet, she proved a veritable gold mine at the 8o guineas which Mr Kelso gave for her as a yearling. She was only 14.2 in front, but was much bigger behind tho saddle. It was through an accident to her wither that she was able to go under the 14.2 standard.

APPEAL UPHELD.

CLUB'S SPORTSMANLIKE DECISION.

A case that has aroused much interest in sporting circles has been the appeal to the Xew Zealand Trotting Association against the decision of the Xew Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club in regard to the Lightnin' case at its Summer Meeting on February 7th. The facts briefly are that Lightnin' was nominated at that meeting for the Linwood Handicap, one mile, "for horses that can do 2min 17sec and have not' done better than 2min !3see." Subsequent to being nominated for that race, Lightnin' raced at Forbury Park and finished second in the An Revoir Handicap, registering 2niin 11 3-usec for the mile. Lightnin' started in the Linwood Handicap at Addingtou ou February 7th and won. After tlie race G. S. Smith, the owner-trainer of Bellfashion, who finished second, lodged a protest on the ground that Lightnin' was ineligible to compete because of her performance at Forbury Park. The protest was dismissed, but an appeal to the Trotting Association was lodged. The appeal was considered at last week's meeting, of the Association and then referred to the Executive to deal with. The Executive gave its decision yesterday afternoon, upholding the appeal. "When the Association's decision was conveyed to the Xew Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club its committee passed the following resolution: "Resolved—Tlkat G. S. Smith's appeal against Lightnin', winner of the Linwood Handicap, being ineligible to start, having been upheld, the club pay to the second, third and fourth horses the stakes, and that the dividends be paid out in accordance with the Rules."

"Further resolved—That Lightnin' having won and been ■ distanced, the club pay to the owner, Mr J. R, MeKenzie, thtf sum of £.190, and refund in full the amount invested on her. namely £694 10s."

The dividends will be paid out at Mr W. H. Macdougall's office, Armagh street.

Ihe upholding of the appeal means thnt the placing in the LimvooJ Han(l'icap will now be:—Bellfashion 1, Hex Coronado 2, Tliixendale 3. The dividends will lje paid out on Bclliashion and Rex Coronado.

TOTALISATOR PERMITS. The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard) telegraphed yesterday to Mr P. Selig, president of the New Zealand "1 rotting Association: "I hope to submit recommendations for allocation of new permits for consideration of Cabinet early this week."

On the motion of the chairman, a comprehensive vole of thanks was carried to all who had assisted tile club. Regarding the appoinment .of officers, the chairman reach rules 14 and 30, which stated that the names of members offering themselves for election to the committee should be sent in seven days before the meeting.
