Won comfortably by two lengths: half a longth second and third. Time, 2m 55 2-ss. Notes on the Racing. Bryan Bingen, Hoo'ey, and Purabell wore •critched for the Introductory Trot, and Uapland was at once made a very warm favourite, carrying considerably more than twice as much money as the second favourite, the Tartar, and practically as much as Tho Tartar, Peter McDonald, and Elaa Nor o together, who were bached in that order. Muter Bill refused to leave the mark, and took practically no part in the race, and- the favourite. did not begin particularly well. He quickly made up his ground, end with half the journey covered ha heeded Ngatna and Lisa Nore, who bad been prominent in the early stages. Trotting in nice style Napland drew cleer alcng the hack stretch and both Ngatira end Elsa Nore broke, making Napland'a task easier. Golden Gate finished strongly, but he broke just on the ■winning poat, and Napland won with something in hand by a length. Loch Lomond was a length and a-h«lf away third, and then came Audex, Floraline, Ngatlra, end Peter Tracey. Napland ie a four-year-old gelding by Petoreta from Dreamland. He is owned by the. Dunedin sportsman Mr G. Barton, and is trained at Addington by W. J. who drove him in the race. The scratchings of Rigley, Admiral Lock, Satinbird, Direct Clumcs, Taneatua, Kingsclere, Blue Star, Grey Peter, and Daphne Wildwood reduced the field for the December Handicap to eighteen, Doctor Dillon, Kuby Huon, and Scandal being fairly e'ven- ' ly backed in that order. Grattan Thorpe and Toll Chimes made the pace in the early nUges, but at the end of the first lap Doctor Dillon was leading from Ruby Huon, with Glandore and Grattan Thorpe next. Two 'furlonge from home Doctor Dillon and Ruby Huon drew clear of the rest of tho field, and tho former led into the etreight, but broke, and Ruby Huon went on in front. She looked like winning easily, hut Glandore finished strongly arj-d was only beaten by a head, in epite of swerrinjr badly just on ' winning post. Doctor Dillon's break entering the straight, cost him his chance, as he finished only two longths behind Glandore. with Toll Chimes, Darknite, Konini•vood, and Anoziram next. Ruby Huon was one of the team brought up by W. J. Tomkinson, but was sold before the race to Newdick Brothers, and wa« driven by A. T. Newdick. Ruby Huon's previous owner was W. Ba'.loch, a Melbourne sportsman. The Auckland Trotting Cup brought out thirteen 6tartcr3 of good class, the three that failed to make the final payment being Great Hope, Bluo Mountain King, and Realm. None of the etarters looked better than Ahuriri, and he was made just a little better farourite than the bracketed pair, Acron and Lady Joan, with Logan Chief a good third favourite. The field went away 4o a good start, but Ahuriri failed to atrilce hie gait quickly and loet a good deal of ground, and Lady Jean was also slow to get going properly. Locanda Mac began in great style, and at the end of half a-mile he was showing? the way to Comedy Chief, All Bell, Acron, Dreamilion. Logan Chief, First Carbine, ind Ahuriri. At this stage Hypo fell and Jewel was pulled up. Locanda Mac was still in front when they entered the last lap, with Legan Chief, Acron, and Ahuriri as his nearest attendants. Locanda Mac was neve* heeded, and stalling off Logan Chief's chal-

lengc in the straight won decisively by near. ly two lengths. Ahuriri put in some greet work over the last half mile, but the ground he lost in the early stages was too much lor him to make up. Once again Pitaroa, neat Man o' War, and then in order came Acron, Dreamalion, Lady Joan, First Carbine end All Bell, with Comedy Chief pulled up. Locanda Mac paced in-very attractive styie throughout, and hie win was well deserved. Logan Chief had e verv chance, though, ho might have done better on a fag tar track, and Ahuriri'e display was very striking, eeeing that at one stage he was giving a, start to.nearly everything in the- rf.ee. Acron cannot be at his beat, as he v.'aa soundly beaten after being -well placed early. After the race the Gold Cup that goes with the stake was presented to Locanda Mac's owner. Mi«s X. Gunn, by the president of the c'ub, Mr John Rowe.

The Parne'.l Handicap, for Unhoppled horses, was a very interesting race, though at the finish it was won easily by Weikaha, a four-vnar-old trotter by Cold Bell from Wild Pirntc, who was always well placed, and in the straight had the measure of Spirit Be'.l. The latter with Nipper had boon responsible for most of the early running, and Maggie Pronto, who was first favourite, was also w;*:i them in the early part, but log' her chance by breaking. Homeleijh Dick, who was giving away 144 yards, cave some- trouble at, the start and made his taßtc border.

Although Ibc Great Northern Trotting Derby brought out only four starters, it was looked forward to with the keenest interest. It was recognised that the race would be a motch between the two Canterbury three-year-olds, Kohara and Glene'.g, and the betting on them showed a difference of less than one hundred tickets. With but little delay the four sterter3 were sent off to a moving-up start. Our Jessie and Rosie Thorpe broke, and Glenetg took up the running from Kohara. These two raced in that order for the first lap, with Our Jessie and Rosie Thorpe nearlv two hundred yard* away being greeted with ironical applnuFc. Entering the second lap Kohara headed G'.enelg, and he led into the home stretch. There. Glenelg tackled him, and though Kohara stuck to his work wc".l Glcnelg had too much paco and beat home by a. length and a-balf. Ro«ie Thorpe and Our Jessie had just turned into the straight when the other two wcto finishing, and they hed a, good Taco for third money, which went to Rosie Thorpe. Glone'.g's form proved him an exceptional'.;.- brilliant three-year-old, and his record now reads three wins in as many starts. Reliance ard Pakcti were scratched for the Grandstand Handicap, for which Goldman was made a. very strong favourite, but ho was never able to get within striking distance of the leaders. Black Mick, Promenade Buz Bu'<, and Lady Dunmoic were leading after they hed gone half a-mile, and when they entered the last lap Holly Boy took charge, but broke. Lady Dunmore drew out turning towards the straight, and won decisively from Temple, with Glandore close up third. Promenade was tiring badly at the finish, and Black Mick and Buz Buz failed to stay.

Aerial Bingen was the only scratching in the Howe Handicap, for unhopped trotters. Tho AmericarOrcd colt Peterwah was made favourite as Boon as tho machine opened, with Roso Bingen also very solidly backed, this pair carrying more than half the money on the machine. Peterwah, who is owned and was driven by the Gisbojnc sportsman, Mr R. C. Fisken, showed a great turn of speed, but he did not begin too well, and afterwards broke in each round just before turning out of the back stretch, and thi3 cost him his chance. Normica Heir began, vory woll, and was leading with a. round to go, but three furlongs from home Pyramus drew out, and her drivor, A. Ju'ian, thereafter took no chances, end keeping Pyramus going won by two lengths from Rose Bingen, who finished on well. Kean John trotted a solid in third place, and after him came Normica Heir, Peterwah, Peter Swift, and Wild Nut.

The St. Helier's Handicap brought out tho biggest field of the dav, twenty-five starters going to the y>J3t The result showed backers to be very wide of tho mark, for Sparkling Pronto, who was a very hot favourite, was nover in the firing line, nor were the bracketed pair La Fayette and Cole Drift, who were next in demand. Ltnglon, Golden Hope, Nelson McCormack, and Waltanui were the leaders in the first round, but four furlongs from home Logan Rothschild and Heather Girl were making tho running, and the last-named staying on well beat Logan Rothschild comfortably, with Rockaway close up third and Master Councillor, Cute Lad, and Golden Hope next. Tho winner paid nearly a o.uarler of a century, and Logan Rothschild would Lave paid just about the same price to win.

WESTPORT T.C.'S MIDSUMMER MEETING. (arxciih to "the psbss.") "WESTPORT, December 27. The -weather was fine for the conclusion of the Trotting Olub's MiAjuwmsr Meeting to-day. Notes on the RacingThe Wcstport Trotung Club's Mids«mm« Mceliug was concluded in ideal w « lQer ; There was a large attendance and the racn.„ was interesting, whilo tbo totahaalor in\cs.ments showed an increase ts compared wit a last year. Tho course was in first-class order, and fast times wero registered iu instances by tho placed horFcs who iu future will'bo found racing in better company. Wir.oberry, an rged mare by I«'o;xhild from Blackberry, easily accf.ur.tcd for a weak field in tho Charleston Handicap. Her task was made easy as the favourite, Ocean Chimes, refused to leave the mark and lock no part in tho race. SmithScld finished second, but was always held safe by the winner, Wineberry, who is trained at Karaniea, and finished second to Locanda. Buy in the same race last year. Zelica was the only one in the Granity Handicap to cover the journey without a mistake. She won. nicely at tho finish, making ber second success at the meeting. After beginning badly, Prudent Child tiottcd a solid race, and defeated Comfort for second money. Taipoiti and Billy Ashley showed speed in patches, only to lose ground by mixing their gaits. Although he lost fu'.ly three seconds'at the start of the Dominion Handicap, General Thorpe defeated an edds-on favourite in Logan Lass, with Harina close up third, the rest of the field being strung out a long way. The winner, General Thorpe, is a four-year-old gelding by Our Thorpe from Lady Sybil, a. good mare in her race days. He is a fine bold pacer, and is capable, of improvement. Logan. Lass showed consistent form, this being her third start,, and she was placed each time. Ocean Whispers and Red Coronet refused to begin, and alon* with Logic's C'oronado and In Haßte finished some distance behind. l tho placed borses. Speculation was good in. tbo Wcstport Trotting Club Handicap. Lona Hand was favourite, and thoro was solid support for Imprint and Some Wilkes. Go'den Locarda. and Logwood broko at the start, while Norwood and Lone Hand wero slow in striking their gait. When the field; settled down Winsome Melody was in charge from Imprint, Trixie Adair, Seme Wilkes, Lone Hand, and Rapier. At the end of six furlongs, Winsome Melodylost her position, and Imprint took up the running, closely followed by Some Wilkes, Norwood, and Lone Hard. There w a s no chango in tho order until going into the back straight the last time, where Lono Hand moved up into third place, but broke. Imprint led into tho straight, closly followed by Some Wilkes, and in a, great finish Imurint won, by half a length from Some Wilkes. Twenty lengths away came Norwood third, and I.onc Hand fourth. The winner is a three-year-old gelding by Denver Huon from a Trince Imperial mare, and his performance was a smart one. He should improve with ago. Some Wilkes paced a fine raco irjio second place, and was unfortunate in meeting such a good one as tho winner. Norwood showed) a return to form by finishing third. With an even start ho must have been hard to beat. Lono Hand showed a lot of speed in tho middle stages of tho- race, but lost what chance he possessed by breaking. The raco was run in fast time, as the placed horses, Imprint, Soma Wilkes, and Norwood improved on their handicap lis, 10 4-ss, and 3 3-5s respectively, whilo tha timo registered by Imprint, 4m 'tis, is a record for tho course. After the raco Imprint and Some Wilkes were disqualified for inconsistent running on the first day of the meeting, and Norwood was placed first. Lone Hand second, and Trixie Adair third. Norwood was sixth favourite and paid a useful dividend. Audo Dillon led from tho start to tho finish in the Waimangaroa Handicap, and won without being extended. Ho is a nice four-year-old pacor by Great Audubon from Yura Dillon, and looks like developing into a good stake winner. General Thorpe, Clive Be'l, and Harina broke in. turn, while In Haste showed littlo speed and finished a porvr third. There were only five starters in the Kawatiri Handicap. Tim Wood was favourite and carried over half the money invested on the totalisator. In the first mile he broke twice and again two furlongs from home, but found little difficulty in winning from Taipoiti, who trotted her best raco at the meeting. For her win early in the day Zelica was penalised 34yds. She raced prominently, but was not eqtj«l to the occasion. Although Some Wilkes »ade such a bold showing in, the Westport Trotting CJiib Handicap Bon Pang was batter backed is tha Birchfie'.d Handicap. The field moved away in line, and Logan Lass and Bon Pang immediately set a eolidi pace, and when half the journey was covered looked to have the fir;il issue to themselves. Passing the stand the last timo tho field closed up, Bon Pang showed signs of tiring and Some Wi'.kes ran into ecoond place, closely followed by Locanda Boy. In the back straight Some Wilkes assumed the lead ar.d won easily from Logan Lass, with Locanda Boy third and the favourite, Bon- Pang, fourth. Tho day's racing concluded with the Dash Handicap, of one mile, for horses that can do 2m 25s or better for a mile. Ecstacy was favourite, but her supportero got a run for their money, as she was turned the wrong way when the barrier was released, and before going a furlong broke and was pulled up. Mahon's Day was always we'.! placed, end although he mixed his gait a furling from home, he won comfortably at tho finish from Go'den Locanda and Neut, who were under pressure a long May from home. Winsoroo Melody f P ll a t the end of four furloncs, but neither her rider, R. Gou r ]ay, nor the mare was injured. AUCKLAND R.C.'S SUMMER MEETING.
