Tile climatic conditions on Saturdaywere conducive to good shooting, the rain which fell in the morning and the fog which was hanging around the hills, not, affecting visibihtv. A tricky wind did not improve, matters in the earlier part of the match, but in its later stages there was at times almost a dead calm. The conditions of the match were 7 shots each with an optional sifter at 300 yds, 500 yds, and (jOOyas. with ten men teams. Four clubs were vepr.-'senlod -Chiistchurch, Christchurcli Haiiway, Knnsiora, and Ashburton. A feature of the match was the shooting of 11. Subsequently, Major Oakes presented the shield to the winners, and congratulated them on their auccess, expressing pleasure that a country club should be the first to hold the shield. Mr D. -F. Keir, president of the Ashburton Club, and captain of the. winning team, in accepting charge of the shield, referred _to the good feeling displayed during the match, and as an instance of the keenness of his team, mentioned that one member had that day travelled 78 miles to take part in the match. The annual rifle shooting meeting of the Wangsmui-West Coast Rifle Association commenced on Saturday morning on the Pntiki rifle range. The weather in the early morning was favourable, but heavy rain fell frequently during the day, making postponement necessary. The entries total 121, and include Captain Simmonds of Wanganui last year's New Zealand and North Island champion, and the ex-champions Masefield, A. Ballinger, 0. Roots; also A. H.
