Further reference was made at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Eoard last week to the question of the appoiiitment of au engineer in succession to Mr "\V. H. llamer, and to the amount of salary (£1250) proposed' to bo paid. It was made clear that one or two members were inclined to believe that the salary should at least bo £ISOO a year, ilr T. Bloodworth vigorously opposed any possible alteration, and" said that somo members had been influenced by the newspapers. A salary of £2500 a year would not make au incompetent engineer a competent one, ami there was a danger of shutting out Ken* Zcalanders, who would be quite willing and competent to take the position at £1250. It was decided to appoint a special committee to consider the appointment and any proposals arising therein.
