PIGEON FLYING
The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club flew their third and last race from Waiouru recently. Twenty-three birds wero sent, divided between eleven owners. The birds were liberated by Mr A. E. Grant at 6 a.m., in fine weather, with a eoutherly wind, which was against the birds registering fast times. The winning bird, No. 4-23, the property of Mr F. Kingsford, flew the distance of 339 miles 1597 yards, in tlio time of lOhrs 2min 19sec. The following are file results: Yards per
Cockroaches, bugs and ants were mentioned in the Arbitration Court at Auckland on Friday as being troublesome to crews of steamers trading between Helensville and Dargaville, when the men were asking for a fumigation of the vessels.
