The Court of Arbitration has amended Clause 14 of tho drivers.' award l>y deleting Is per ten =:ud substituting Ss per ton, and by deleting the last sentence in tho clause. The union stated-that the men were not desirous of doing this class of work and hoped that bakers would install mechanical hoists. The Court expresses the opinion that drivers should not be required to cr.rry 2001b sacks of flour upstairs, but it could not enforce a direct prohibition against bakers who arc not parties to the award. The amendment to the award takes effect as from December ftth, -1924. Tho union, when the. matter -was beforo the Court, asked that tho rate should be fixed at 2s 6d a ton, At the opening of the Columbia School of Dentistry, Professor Charles Bodecker announced that he had discovered the presence of an organic matrix in the enamel of the adult human tooth.
