OBITUARY.

MR ROBEBT BOTD. Mr Eobert Boyd, who died at his home, "Framlington," Oxford road,' Eangiora, on Sunday, was born at Styx in 1868, being the eldest son of the late Mr James Boyd. From his youth he followed fanning pursuits in the Cust and Fernsido districts • until 1920 when, owing to failing health, he retired. Up to the time of his death he took a keen interest in farming and the rearing of good stock. For years he was a member of the committee of the Northern A. and P. Association, and during the war period was an -untiring worker for patriotic causes, and was always a liberal supporter when charity was needed. Being of a .bright and kindly disposition ho endeared himself to all who knew him. Since residing in Eangiora Mr Boyd took a keen interest in bowling and other sport. Ho was also .a member of the Freemasons, and took 'an active interest in that body. He leaves a widow and thrco daughters. The funeral took place yesterday in the Presbyterian portion of the.cemetery on the East Belt, Eangiora. The cortege, which left the deceased's late residence, was a very long one, fortysix motor-cars being in the procession besides a number of followers on foot. At the graveside the first portion of the service was conducted by the Eev. W. H. Howes, followed by the Masonic funeral service, which was read by Mr C. Mcintosh. McDonald and family, Mr and Mrs D. Boyd, Eichard Gwynie, Eangiora Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club, Mr and Mrs Dalzell and Vera, Mrs McDonald sen., Mr and„ Mrs A. E. Cowio, Jack Hughey, Mr and Mrs J. Douds, Mr and Mrs E. Forsyth, Martha and family, and Cousins, Eita and Mary.

DR. W. R. PEARLESS. (nisi association rauaiAjc.) NELSON, December 23. The death is announced of Dr. W. R. Pearless, aged 70. Deceased served through the South Afrian War and the Great War with the rank of Lieut.Colonel. His fine work on Gallipoli in caring for the wounded will be remembered by many. General Richardson during his visit to Nelson some time ago, referred to Dr. Pearless As that "Grand Old Veteran." Deceased in the. early days took a keen interest in the volunteer movement, and was also a prominent figure in sporting circles.

A Sydney cable announces the death of Arthur McCubbin, well known in shipping circles. He served on Gallipoli in the Otago Battalion of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and later rejoined the Navy.
