OBITUARY.

Mil "W. KEITH. IMr William Keith, who died at Papanui. cm December 17th, was horn in Aberdeen about 72 years ago. In his early manhood he migrated to Canada, hut soon left it for Nerw Zealand, which he reached more than half a century Ago. He first took up land at Clarlrville, in the Kaiapoi district. About 30 Tears ago he moved to a farm tit, llarewood, near. Papanui, where he remained until he retired and made his home in Bb. James avenue, Papanui. He was an active member of tho Paonnui Burgesses' Association, and for a long period he was a member and chairman of the Clarkville and Harewood School Committee. At the time of his death and for a great number of years ho was chairman of the Waimairi Cemetery Board. He also took a deep' interest in religious matters, and -fas a member and trustee of the Methodist Church, and for some years superintendent of the Sunday school. The funeral, which took place at the Waimairi Cemetery on the 19th inst., was largely attended by farmers from every part of the district. The service was conducted by the Revs. A. Peters, C. Abernethy, and J. B. Bickerstaff. The deceased leaves a widow and a large family of eons and daughters. , SJIi THOMAS STOUT. (special to "the psiss.") DUNEDIN, December 22. Sir Thomas Stout, who died at Northeast Valley yesterday, was a brother i of Sir Robert Stout. He would have completed tho seventy-fourth year of his age on Christmas Eve. Ho was born at Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands, and at an early ag© entered the Post Office thero s under his cousin the Chief Postmaster of Shetland.' He came to New Zealand at the beginning of 1876. Ho was in the railway telegraph service for some timo, and then in the law offico of Messrs Sievwright and Stout. Ho was later in tho Deeds Registry Office, where he served for just over.f orty-ono years, retiring on superannuation about threo yoars ago. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family of throe sons and three daughters. Two of the sons are in the Hillside workshops.
