HOSPITAL HONORARY STAFFS.

REPLY TO DR. CAMPBELL BEGG. Reference to a statement of Dr. It. Campbell Begg, at Palinerston North, ■was made in the report of the Hospital Committee presented to the North Canterbury Hospital Board's meeting yesterday. The report stated: —Dr. T. Mill, - chairman of tho honorary staff of tho hospital, speaking on behalf of tho staff, called attention to the remarks made by Dr. Begg, who represented tho New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association at an enquiry recently held in Palmerston North. He accused Hospital Boards of failing to utilise the services and advice of honorary staffs in the way Of improving hospitals and mating them fit for modem requirements; this attitude having had more influence than any other factor in keeping hospitals in New Zealand in their present state of inefficiency. He said that in many respects the hospitals were inefficient. Dr. Mill stated that tho honorary staff of the Christehurch Hospital resented most strongly the words uttered by Dr. Begg, which the members of tho honorary staff wero convinced are without foundation. The president of tho Executive of the newly-formed Hospital Boards' Association also called attention to the remarks made by Dr. Begg, and aslced that the various Boards should strongly resent the remarks made by tho representative of tho New Zealand branch of tho British Medical Association. The report was adopted.
