DANCE RECITAL.

riTILS OF PETERS-GRAY SCHOOL.

The rainy and almost wintry weather conditions on Saturday had no appreciable effect upon the attendance ut the special matinee in the Caledonial Hall in the afternoon by tho Peters-Gray School of Dance, Drama, and Mime. The larger proportion of the accommodation was occupied, and an appreciative audience enjoyed a. moat delightful entertainment. Like previous recitals that of Saturday afternoon was marked by the charming artistic effects attained and by the evidences of the. thorough training that the. pupils of the Peters-Gray School receive. Of the outstanding items, given in appropriate- costumes, in a- programme of general high artistic merit, may be mentioned the Obsequies to Persephone, a symbolic dance reconstructed from movements actually need in the funeral rites of ancient Greece. This was given bv Miss Irene Mulvany. Grey and described" the procession of mourners, movements of tragedy, beating o c the head, breast, and hands, hair-tearing, hair-cutting and strewing, and movements of prayer and libation. These were very convincingly conveyed by the dancer, the music for tho dance being bv Schumann. "The Pied Piper of Hamelin' (Browning), a. mime arranged by Irene Mawcr was effectively portrayed, bv Irene Mulvany Gray (Pied Piper), Hilda Mulvanv Gray (Mayor), Helen Buchanan (Townsfolk), and Eoma Carey (the Storyteller). Another picturesque item was tho ballet. •'Moonlight" (Beethoven), arranged bv Miss Gray and pleasingly interpreted by Mary Clifton Mogg (Spirit of the 'Moon), Hejen Cane (Shadow), and pupils (clouds and shadows). The other items on the nrogramme, all of which were admirably rendered in appropri- | ate costumes, were k8 follows:—The Bobblies Dance (German), Tho Bobblies: An Autumn I Idvll (Chopin), Leaves, Pupils of PetersGray School: Tho Leaf, Virginia Cane; ] Will o' the Wisp, Margot "Wallwork; A ■Spear dance (Colerideo Taylor). Irene Mulvany Gray; Sailor's Hornpipe. Nancy Buchanan; Gavotte (Frederick Mann), Joan Cooper, Virginia Cane, Mary Clifton Mogg, Dorothv Dav, Diana Allen, Helen Cane: Bon-jour Pierrot (Weatherly), Hilda Mulvany Gray; Piping (Schube.rW. Helen Bruce; Czardas (Sohawenka), Irene Mulvany Gray; La Niiit (Pvubinstein), Scota Steward; A Cloak Dance (Coleridge Tavlor). Mary Clifton Mogg; Minuet. (Andre Messa-ger), Helen Buchanan, Jimnie Williams; Elves at Play (Miller), the musio was' chosen, the dance arranged, and the dresses designed entirely by Nancy Buchanan, Patricia Carney, Annette Thompson: Tarantella (Moskowski), Dorothy Day. Helen Cane, Mary Clifton Mogg, Joan Cooper. . An efficient orchestra provided ihe music, Miss Doris Webb being at the piano.
