The fortnightly sales of Bheepskins, hides, and tallow were held at' Wellington on Friday by the various brokers. An average catalogue of all grades was offered to a full attendance of exporters, fellmongers, tantiers, and th& local trade. Under spirited competition dry- sheepskins were disposed of at prices Jd to Ad per ib better than late ratee. Salties were easier and prices all round were 6d to Is lower. Extra special and super lota were about on a par to 6d lower. Some nice lineß of abattoir hides were offered under keon competition. Heavies showed an'appreciation of Jd to 3d per ib, medium And light-heights J-d to Jd, cut, slippy, damaged and inferior lines again soldi a.t late rates. Kip and yearling were eagerly sought after and price® were j£d to Id better than previoos quotations. Calf sold about on a par with rates previously recorded. For tallow, bidding throughout was good, and prime mixed, good coloured lines- showed an improvement cf Is per cwt. Other grades ruled on the" basis of last week's value with sun occasional appreciation. TATTERSALL'S HORSE SALE. Messrs 31. Mats&n and Co. had an entry of 30 horses, 10 gigs and traps,.also a quantity of serviceable harness. The draught horses eent forward were not up to the'usual standard, but, apart from this clasa of horse, the entry was & very representative one, and sold exceptionally well. Two southern buyers competed keenly for any fresh horses nnd managed to secure a truck-load. As has been the case for some time past, owners ■wanted too high prices for vehicles. Dogcarts and gigs have depreciated in value fully 60 per cent. Three good quality ponies Eent in from Darfield, Ohoka, and Scargill found buyers at £l2 15a, £ll 10s, and £lO. Although the five-year-old pacer Nelson Mac was not sold, at auction, he was disposed of after the sale at a satisfactory figure.
