BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS.
Tl>e first demonstration concert, under tho auspices of the Bund of Hops Union, Waa held in the Choral Hall on Saturday evening. An enthusiastic audience gathered in spite of the rain, to hear » good progT»mmo by first priiewinners. During the evening the president, Mr E. A. M. Leaver, caJled on tho donor of the Gunnell Juvenile Challengo Shield, Mrs T. W. Gunnell, who has boon a worker in tho "Union ever since its formation, to present the shield to the Band of Hope gaining most points in Classes A and B. Little Joaun Hughes rocoivcd the shield on behalf of th« i\ow Brighton United Society, which obtained 66 points. Mr Lcwer then c»llod for cheers for Mrs Gunnoll. The president presented th® "A."' Shnld to the soci«ty obtaining most points open competition—lf>s. Mrs TTull reesited tho shield foT the New Brighton Society, {his being the second year it has •woo it. Tho medals won were also presented amid appl&uso to tho following:—Gold championship, for most points in individual items, Ronald Fostor, Wools ton, with 18 points. Elocution medals to Winnie Smith, Madras street, and Ronald Fost-or, Woolaton, 19 points, equal. Vocal medals, to Kathleen Cliapple, St. Paul's, and Jin* Wiclcs, Durham street South, 10 points, «qu»l.
