LOCHABER ELECTRICITY.
The North British Aluminium Company rccontlj- placed with Messrs Balfour, Beattie and Co., of London and Edinburgh, a contract for the construction of a reinforced concrete pier in Loch Linnhe, near Fort William, with approach viaduct and other works. This contract represents the first instalment of the great hydro-electric scheme which the lirm has Parliamentary powers to carry out in the Lochaber district, and the estimated ultimate cost of which is between £4,000,000 and £5,000,000. It was expected that work would be started at Loch Linnhe last month, and about the same time contracts would be placed for the construction of a pressure tunnel from Loeh Treig to Fort William. The complete scheme, the largest of its kind in Scotland, will transform an area of moors and forests into one of large works for the production of aluminium. The water-sheds for over 300 square miles will be harnessed, and 20 miles of aqueducts will be constructed, some of them through the solid rock of Ben Nevis, one of them ISft in diameter, and another large enough for a single line of broad-gauge rails.
