CANTERBURY CRICKET UMPIRES' ASSOCIATION.

TO THE EDITOR f? "THE rBISS." Sir, —Two years ago'tho above Association' was formed in Christchurch, and I made an appeal to retired and those others sufficiently interested in tho game to join up and givo us a helping hand. I believe the Association has done good work. and. as a. result of our fortnightly meetings and discussions the members feel thembers feel themselves to be better qualified for their work. Our difficulty is that there are not sufficient umpires to act'in all matches. Members are not tied down every Saturday, but when they desire to be relieved this is done, provided sufficient notice is given. We can easily find work for another thirty or forty umpires, and that would mean a little more freedom f"r those who have been sticking so well to their job. There is no membership fee, and there is no payment to members (excepting for interprovincial matches), the only recompense being free admis-sion-to interprovincial matches and the knowledge that one is assisting in the

one ganio that more than any other has played such a loading part-in forming tho British character. If there are any such as Trill help us to keep up our end of the game, ivo shall be pleased to givo them a. hearty -welcome. - Enquiries may ho made from Mr A. V. Bclstcu, the secretary, or any member of tho Association. — Yours, etc., O. CAYGILL, President.
