The work of installing new plant at the Tramway Board's Cashmere Hills sub-station, at Barrington street, will be completed, it is anticipated, in about a fortnight. Tho crocs-over on the Moorhouse avenue line, beyond Selwyn street, the points at which were said to have caused the derailment of a tram-car and trailer about a week ago, has been removed. The track having been duplicated there is no further use for the cross-over. The tramway cross-over at Barrington street (Hills line) has been completed and awaits inspection by the Resident Engineer of the Public Works Department before being brought into use. The permanent way gang started work yesterday morning moving over the line in Westenra street, a work that has been put in hand in connexion with the new entrance for tram passengers to the A. and P. Association's Show Grounds a£ Addingjtoo. .

This afternoon the All Blacks will play Gloucester., and the result of the match should be known at all post offices by nine o'clock to-morrow morning. In Christchurch. it will be posted at "The Press" office. In 1905 Now Zealand defeated Gloucester by 44 points to 0, but the county team this year should be about the equal of Somerset in strength.

The Canterbury Horticultural Society's Spring Show will be held in the Art Gallery to-day and to-morrow. It was repotred to the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday that 140 cases of infectious diseases had been notified during August. The number of patients dealt with in the Infectious Diseases' Hospital during the month of August was £:2 G. There were 120 remaining from the previous month, and 103 admissions. Many of the cases were of an acute type.

The directors, of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company have received official advice to the effect that it is proposed to bring the Maori house (Mata-atua), which at present forms part of the New Zealand display at "Wembley, back to the Dominion and re-erect it in tho Dunedin Exhibition grounds;. Tho bouse is 79ft 6in long, 4lft wide, and 22ft high. The funeral of the late Mr Howard Strong, who died in Christchurch on Sunday night, took placo yesterday morning, the interment, which was. a private one, being at the Bromley Cemetery. The graveside sen-ice was conducted by the Rev. C. A. Fraer, and amongst thoso present was Mr E. Bell, librarian of the Public Library. The Canterbury Pilgrims' Association and the Veterans' Association were also represented. "If a bird of Paradise leg has a. piece of satin tied to it, it can be imported into New Zealand," said Mr E.
