SWIMMING
SYDENHAM CLUB. The animal meeting of the Sydenham Amateur Swimming Chib was held last night, Mr 11. B. Lyons presiding. The annual report stated that during the year the club worked: in a small way, and expenditure was kept •well within' receipts. The result of the season's work was Very satisfactory. Nine Taces were held, and utr J. Pratt, a Vice-president and a very generous supporter of the club, gavo several trophies tan J promoted several " impromptu events. A picnic was held at Corsair -Day on February 3rd, when tho annual contest for the Putnam Cup, over a quarter of a mile, was held, besides three other events. A largo number of schoolboy races were held throughout the season, and probably the most important work of tho club was in connexion with the school. Many more Sydenham, schoolboys were taught to swim in tho past season than for some years paat, and) further energies ehould- be utilised to build up the future strength of the club. Tho balance of receipts over expenditure was £l3 18s. The City Council during the year carried out some improvements at the bath, in particular placing a galvanised grip pipe right round the bath, making it much snore safe for children to use, and provided life-sav-ing gear. To the City Council tho best thanks of members were due. Thanks were also due to Messrs E. J. Howard, M.P., "VV. E. Munday, J. Pratt, A. J. Derbidge, the president (Mr M. E. Lyons), and tho Sydenham School Committes, for donations to the funds. The Jones Cup competition was won by J. Howison, jun., and the Putnam Cup by H. Gasson. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr "VV. J. Putnam; president, Mr M. E. Lyons; vice-presidents, Dr. "W. It. Anderson, and Messrs J. Pratt, "W. E. Munday, A. Derbidge, W. A. Jlowison, E. J. Howard, M.P., It., Gny, and P. C. Andrews; club captain, Mr D. Fabian; vice-captain, Mr J. Howison, sen.; secretary,. Mr J. Howieon," jun.; committee, Messrs 11. Gasson, L. "VV. Gill, L. Gasson, L. Budd, L. C. Tyrrell, L.- Lumby; delegate to Centre, Mr M. E. Lyons; honorary auditor, Mr H. Le Page. , It was decided to open tho eeason on October 25th.
At the close of the. meeting:, the president pTesented the captain, Mr Fabian, who has recently 'been married, with a crystal bowl, on behalf of the members, and wished him and Mrs Fabian long life and happiness. A watch was also presented to Mr L. Gosson for the interest he had taken in the club.
