The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, has received advice that General Sir Charles Ferguson, Governor-General-elect, has arranged to leave England about November 6th by {he Ruahine, and is due to reach Wellington on or about December 11th.

Mr p. Langbein, officer in charge of the Public Works Office, Christchureb, left for Wellington last evening. Meßsrs L. G. Murray (Wharenui) and w. L. Moore (Wellington) are among tho guesta at Warner's Hotel. Mr W. H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, leaves Chrißtchurch to-day for Dunedin. He expects to return at tho end of the week.

Among the guests at tho United Service Hotel are Messrs D. G. Macfarlane (Parnassus), D. Stowell (Timaru), R. Macauley (Temuka), 0. Hutchison (Timaru), and D. Williams (Oamaru). Messrs W, Coleman, H. B. McMastcr, and K. McMaster (Maryborough), D. W. Stewart (Tapanui), K. C. Aekins, and A. J. Euthorford (Donedin) are among tho guests at tho Clarendon Hotel.

Messrs Leslie Macfarlane, L. A. Rutherford, Jas. Heasley, and Walter J. Leach left by tho Mararoa last night, to present the Hurunui ratepaycrs' petition to Parliament, asking for the Itabbit Board to be abolished. The petition is to be presented at 10 a.m. to-day.

A Wellington telegram states that Sir Sani Fay and Sir Vincent Raven, £Ee British railway experts, who aro to enquire into the New Zealand railway system, and who are at present conducting a similar investigation in New South Wales, will leave Sydney for New Zealand on October 9th, and will commence tjieir duties immediately after their arrival.

Hayes, surveyor, of Te Awamutu, of his selection for the position of enfineerinff surveyor to the Fiji Kauri imber Company, which intends to exploit a huge tract of timber country on the mainland of Fiji, The work to be undertaken by Mr Hayes is of considerable magnitude, including the lay-ing-out of a road that runs right across the island north-westward from Suva, a task which was being carried out bv a former Te Awamutu resident, Mr Sealy, who was murdered a few weeks
