Two Hoardings.
It. is something gained that the " dreadnought hoarding" for Ferry Road must remain in the imagination of its admirers for another fortnight at least. The Standing Orders, plus the absence of five councillors, pushed the reception of the Woolston deputation of protest forward into another meeting, and it ought not to be expecting too much to hope that time will bo oa the aide of dignity and taste. There is a question also of justice in these hoarding outrages, and while we do not wish to identify ourselves with an agitation against any particular owner, it was a quite legitimate protest, on the face of it, that was fonvarded to the Council hv the owner of the property adjoining the Perry Eoad section. It is not fair to the owner of any section, or to the ratepayers and dwellers in any suburb, that they should be subjected to an offence of this kind and should havo no redress. If the choice must be made between a vacant section and an " artistic" hoarding we declare with-
out hesitation for the section; for if the section is untidy it can bo made tidy—as it commonly Vt ' De ** ™ opon to the public gazfi —but no one can take the offence out of a thousand square feet of underclothes or blue or soap. And it is particularly offensive that while the Ferry Boad hoarding is under consideration the Council should have granted permission to erect a smaller hoarding in Lincoln Road. If one ia a "poliey matter" the other is, and if ono could not be refused in the absence of five councillors the other should not havo been granted.
