This was a very good thing for the supply, as tho day load, which was very poor, was being rapidly increased. Electric meters were being installed at the rate of 50 per month. Tho 200 ordered sonic time ago would last untjl the end of October. It would be necessary to order a further batch before these were used up. There was on hand a large quanr tity of different sizes of bare "wire, which had been taken down from the lines and replaced with covered wire, it was recommended that the Council dispose of this in the best possible way, as there was no ehafiee of tho electrical department making any furr ther use of it. Tho channel on Rossall street would be finished on Tuesday. Jeffrey's road would then be completed from Garrcg road to Clyde road, then along 'Clyde road on tho east eide to Feudalton road. Good progress was. being made with the Waimairi road culvert. The walls of tho culvert would be finished to-day and it would be open for traffic at the end of tlje week. The metal on the Marshland road had been blinded with clay from the Marshland road pit. The tree-plan ting at Stewart's Gully Reserve was finished and the nursery had been filled up with one yeaivold trees. Mr Inwood had made a good job of the planting. Tho report was adopted. The County Clerk's report stated taht he had received prices from several firms for mixers and bitumen, etc., but further replies wero still to come. It would be best to await theso before further considering the matter. He drew the Council's attention to the variance between wages paid to labourers and horse drivers and suggested that the rate of pay for horse drivers, be the same as that for labourers and that the present rate for tho motors-truck driver be increased by 2d an hour. The report was adopted. Tho Tramway Board wrote agreeing to allow the Council to erect "a eubr station on their section in Aljan street. Mr T. J. Thompson wrote asktf?g that a channel be constructed on his road. The request was refused for the present. In response to a, request from the Bur-wood' School Committee it was decided that any spoil in tho district should be dumped in the school grounds. It was resolved that Mr W. A. Nichr oils should represent the Council at a, conference-to be held,at Kaiajoi regarding road construction^ The Tramway Board wrote asking that the Council should close Westenra street on race and trbifctipg days.
