INTERESTING LECTURE. There was a good attendance at the W E.A. lecture-room on Saturday nig . when an illustrated lecture on "The Development of Music" was delivered by Jie Rev. Hubert Jones. Professor She Ley made a ehort speech, introducing tho ct^ rer - Beginning at the early part of the Middle Ages tho lecturer treated each individual stage' in the predion of music wxth great detail. With the help of Professor Sh 1 , some very fine lantern slides of many of the most prominent cathedrals were exhibited, giving one an excellent, idea of the advancement through the ages of these wonderful y carved stono structures. The lecturer then gave a very lucid account of tho music ot the churches, explaining the manner in which organs of ■«» ear.y period were played by thumping tho -keys with tho closed lists, tho keys then being several inches m width. A trio from the Stanford \ Uwrb Choir sang o hymn, and eo good was execution that very little imagination was required to carry to one s mind the wonderful volume of sound live hundred men created when singing that same hymn in one of the vast cathedrals one had viewed upon the screen a few minutes earlier. -W Jones traced the development or music from the Middle Ages up through the 1 udoi times, concluding with music of to-day. Miss Millicent Jennings assisted greatly m making the lecture a success, the audience being "delighted with the two very old ana beautiful hymns which she sang. The programme oi tlie evening coneluded with a fine blending of male and female voices, as produced by the cn'.:re Stanford Yilliers choir.
