A gentleman, in conversation with a friend, mentioned that he had a gTC.it crop of artichokes. and oil the friend saving that he Tvas very fond of them, told him to come any time and dig some for himself. lie did so. They were taken home, peeled, and cooked by his wife. The faxailv ate them and enjoyed thcni. frying those left over for breakfast the next morning. On meeting the donor later, the friend was very much startled to find that he and his family liud been cuting dakliu roots.
