GENERAL. A very successful invitation dunce under tho auspices of the Technical OM Pupils' Club was iield in ilie Aslibur'cn Technical School on rriduy evening. There was a very go oil attendance of old pupils and friends, while a select Km ut' the latest ballroom music was suwtjJic«l by Miss U. Ibell. The First Canterbury Mounted Uiile Hand held n very successful concert in tho Theatre Koyal last eveuing, when the following programme "*vns played: March, <; >ramur"; hymn, "Euphony"; grand contest seWt ion, "Nabueco" (Verdi); valsc, 4 * Keel M"non' ? : march, ''Patagonian." Mr T. Hail also rendered a vocal item. Although the present dry spell lias been greatly against farming conditions, sonic parts of the country are fortunate inasmuch as they have obtained good results from the lambing. J.t is reported that some farmers in tho Mavliehl and Lismoro districts have had 110 per cent., and in otiier c:ises even bigger percentages arc reported, but the present weather conditions are not beneficial, for rain is long overdue, and the growth of grass is practically at a standstill. Missionary Afternoon. The St. Andrew's branch of the Presbyterian Women ':i Missionary 'Union met on Friday afternoon, and assisted by many friends held .1 small work in :i marquee which had been erected 011 the lawn beside the churc.h. A large number of ladies attended during tho afternoon, and between two and five o'clock all the gifts of produce, cakes, plain and fancy work were disposed of. Tho nctt result will be a very substantial sum for the support of home and foreign missions. Tho following ladies were in charge of the stalls: —Plain and fancy work, Mrs Buchanan, Mrs Longlcv, Mrs Drayton; cakes, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Irvine; sweets, Miss Murray; produce, Mrs Tulloch. Miss Cameron acted as general supervisor. Arrangements for afternoon tea were in the hands of Mrs Moore, Mrs Anderson. Miss Mary Cameron, ami Airs Nolan. Tea was served in an adjoining hall, and immediately afterwards the following musical programme, which had been arranged by Mrs W. McDonald, was given:—Duet, Mrs Williams and Mrs McDonald; song, Mrs Craighead; recitation, Miss Mclutyre: song. Miss rictcher; j'bmo solo, Mrs Williams; song, Miss Tucker; recitation, Miss McTntyre; song, Miss rictcher* violin solo, Mrs McDonald; song, Mrs Craighead.
