Tides. It will be high tide on tho beaeh today at 5.46 a.m., and in the river at 10.16 a.m., and to-morrow at 9.33 a.m. and 31.3 a.m. respectively. Picture Benefit. The picture entertainment given by the management of tho Premier Pictures on Wednesday and Thursday in aid of the school grounds improvement funds was well attended, and a satisfactory cheque in aid of the fund should result. Sports Clubs. Both the Bowling and Cricket Club open their season's play this afternoon. The local Senior Cadets' annual football match against tho Lyttelton Club is being played this afternoon. Tho inter-borough rifle match, Sumner Cadets v. New Brighton Cadets, has been fixed for Tuesday, the 30th inst., on the local range. Methodist Church. The services to-morrow will be eonducted at 11 a.m. by .the Rev. F. T. Read, and at 6.30 by the 'Rev. C. Abernethy. Tho anthem, "Abide With Me" will bo sung by tho choir at 6.30. Mr A. E. Lawry will conduct a service at the South Brighton Hall. W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the W.C.T.U. was held on Wednesday, Mrs H. Hall presiding. Mesdames Wcdd and Patten, who attended the Provincial Convention, furnished interesting reports in connexion therewith. Mrs Don, New Zealand president, wroto from America telling of her experiences and travels. It was decided to hold a sale of cakes, etc., from a street stall on the 27th inst., the proceeds to be in aid of the Plunket Society. During the evening Mr W. Dobbs, Canterbury . organiser, delivered, an interesting address. Promenade Concert. By permission of the Council, Deny's private band is giving a selected programme of music from the Esplanade rotunda to-morrow at 3 p.m., during the course of which a collection will be taken up in aid of tho band's uniform fund. Borough Council. A special meeting of the Standing Committee will be held on Monday to consider tho proposal to erect a bridge acrosg the Avon at South Brighton. Presbyterian Church, Services to-morrow will be conducted by /the Eev. J. S. Young, 11 a.m. ("The Lord's Supper"); 6.30 p.m., "Is Salvation Only Through Christ!" Personal. "Mr George Lawrence, of Collingwood street, and Mr Peter Miller, of Ida street, are at present confined to their homes through illness. Mr \T. J. Boyce, assistant master at the. school, who has been very ill, is now convalescent, and resumed duty this week. South Brighton. A very enjoyable euchre party was held in the South Brighton _ Hall on Wednesday evening, the residents attending in force. The prize-winners were:—Ladies: Mrs Moody 1, Mrs-Rob-inson 2; gentlemen: Mr Grammar 1, Mr Robinson 2. The consolation prizes went to Miss Glenn and Mr Sherwood. Residents are pleased to know that the Tramway Board is placing a 'bus in commission to connect with t.ie mam route to the city.
