HOSPITAL BOARD'S THANKS.
Mrs J. C. Holmes, of Christcluirch, who has been receiving various amounts, mostly in penny subscription, from tho children of Canterbury and West Co&st Schools, on behalf of the Children's Fresh Air Homo "Fresh Ajr Fund," lodging them at "The Press" Office recently handed the sum of £l6B to tho Xorth Canterbury Hospital Board. , , » , ' In forwarding the thanks of the Board to Mrs. Holmes and others who have assisted in the work, Mr W. H. Wharton, tho Board's secretary, states that ho has also received £375 as a result of the Charity Day appeal or the Canterbury Rugby Union, and this, together with tho sum raised by Mrs Holmes, and the further sum she hopes 1o raiso will, ho believes, assure that tho work in connexion with tho erection of the building can bo put in hand almost at o&c. That Mrs Holmes should have raised such a large sum of monev through the schools, the Jetter states, speaks volumes for the goodness of heart, of young iNew Zealand. Tho following additional sums have been lodged at "The Press" Office by Mrs Holmes on behalf of tho Proceeds of young people a concert, £lO Vis 4d * St. Joseph's School, Papanui, 38s 3d* Motunau School, ss; Mt. Sowers. 2s 6d; Convent of Mercy, Mcthven, 10s; total, £lB 15s Id.
