GENERAL.
About twenty members of the Savage Club riaded "Akaunui," the residence of Colonel John Findlay at Eiffelton 011 Thursday evening. Colonel and Mrs Findlay received tho raiders in hospitable spirit. The raiders, aftet much oratorical parley, installed the Colonel as Great Chieftain, and nnder his command a most enjoyable programme of music, story, and song was gono through. Mrs Fincllay refreshed the entertainers with supper in the billiard room, which had anticipated the secrecy of the raid by its beautiful floral decorations. Final speeches, customary in "Savagedom," were made near midnight, ami the raiders returned to their Ashburton "stronghold." At Thursday evening's meeting of the Ashburtcn Tennis Club a motion of sympathy was passed to Miss Digby and Mrs E. H. Orr in the loss of .their father. • Miniature Rifle Shooting. A triangular match was fired between the Willowby, Lynnford, and Westerfield Rifle Clubs. The match wa3 of fifteen men a-side, the best ten to count, and was won by Willowby with a score cf 330, Lynnford's total being 323, and Westerfield's 300. At the weekly shoot of the Willowby Club the "Hotty" button was won by T. Mackay. The fifth trophy, presented by Mr 11. Ingram, was won by T. Mackay with three possibles, after tiding with. P. Stiven, 11. White, F. Greenall *7. Maekav, and W. Smith. Some of'tlic best scores were:—T. Maekav, P. Stiven 35; L. Pratley, H. White, F. Greenall, J. Mackay, W. Smith, A. Pratley 34. L. Smith 33, D. Mackay, J. Parsons 32; S. Pearson, J. Frampton, H. Mitchell, B. Uroomfield, W. Tate 30. Oddfellowship. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Ashburton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., N.G. Bro. 11. C. Patterson presided. Correspondence was received from the Loval Tinwahl Lodge, inviting the Lodge to a debate. It was decided to meet the Tinwald Lodge, and Bros. J. B. Donaldson, R. Johnston, and K. Thompson were selected to represent Ashburton. Nine members were declared on the sick funds, and sick pay amounting to £8 13s 4cl was passed for payment. Three candidates were proposed for membership, and two initiated. The Social Committee reported that the final social for the season would be held in the Orange Hall on October Ist.
