ON LOVING THE DEVIL.
to THE IDITOE O* "THI FBIS®."* ' Sir,—On opening, "The Press" this morning I was confronted' by a loiter from his ' Satanic' Majesty, though using one of his many aliases; \rhieh is a pity, tor everyone may not have road B urns's ' poem which "ho quotes.' My first thoughts were: ' How ' could he spare so much time a poor politician', and in : Grand National 'Week, too? But on consideration, _ I imagine ''A i;ld Clootie" may.have nioro time op 'his. hands now than .in tho. Victorian dhys ■finch he so* detests and desm'sas: 'for then there. -was hoino life/ arid its influence, discipline','children ur.dpr control,' no mad rush for" pleasure, no jazzing. no picture theatres «<S do Ms work- for" him. ■ However.- HjS.M. is evidently a' student, quoting Milton, Carlylo, and manv o'thers: l but. he forgot to mention the occasion on which he quoted' from' Holy 'Writ 'to- his own "discomfiture. I trust that "Nic Lie Ben" will return shortly to his "Cavern grim and sooty."—Yours; etc., 'VICTORIAN. '
