CHINESE RAIDED.
BIG HAUL OF OPIUM IN SYDNEY. (by CABLE—PBESS ABSOCIATIOH—cbPTBIGHT) (AUSTBALIAN AND JT.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION) SYDNEY, August 14. The biggest raid of its kind ever carried out was made by the police on a Chinese factory in Gloucester street. The raid resulted in the confiscation of opium valued at £SOO and the discovery of a large quantity of shirts valued at several hundred pounds, made from silk alleged to have been stolen from a city firm. A wealthy Chinese merchant and his son, and another Chinese, were arrested. Two of those arrested are charged with offering bribes to the police.
