Any kind of women's work will bo willingly accepted by the secretary of the "Work Day" at Canterbury Collego. The appeal for men's work has met with a very good response. There are, however, many demands for women's work of any description, cleaning windows, wishing, sowing, darning, scrubbing, spring cleaning, or any house job. The annual football match between College House and Rolleston House, which was played on the North Ilagley Park on "Wednesday afternoon, drew a large number of supporters and interested spectators. A very enjoyable concert was given by the Lyttelton Methodist Concert Party in the Opawa Methodist Schoolroom on Tuesday evening in aid of the produce stall at the forthcoming bazaar. The following was the programme Glees, "Hail, Smiling Morn," "Early One Morning," " Alan Water,'' " When Twilight Dews," "Where the Bee Sucks"; male quartette, Messrs V. and H. Heal, O. Neil, and Symonds; song, Miss Jeffreys; 'cello solo, Miss Foster; song, Mr Symonds; ' chorus, Concert Party; piano solo; Mrs Vere Livingstone; quartette party, Mrs Shadbolt, Miss Slater, Messrs Neilson and Smith. The monthly meeting of the committee of tho Phillipstown Kindergarten was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Miss Gordon (in the chair), Mesdames Williams. J. A. Empson, It. Read, R. E; Dunbier, A. Empson, Wyatt, and Miss Ryan. An apology was received from Mrs Leaver, Miss Tabarfc visited the school during the month, and addressed mothers on the Bible-in-Schools question. The thanks of the committee are due to the Parents' Committee for asphalting paths, etc. It was reported that a number of children are absent from school through sickness. The roll-number stands at 75, highest attendance 56, average 45. School subscriptions amounted to £3 Is Id. Mrs Williams visited the school and distributed biscuits and sweets. . Other visitors were Madame Fusev, Mrs Seed-Gowing, and Mrs J. A. Empson.. At the conclusion of the unveiling of the soldiers' memorial on Wednesday afternoon at Bangiora, her Excellency Lady Jellicce was the guest of the Mayoress (Mrs W. A. Bowse) at afternoon tea at the Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club's social room. On arrival at the club her Excellency was presented with a beautiful bouquet by the niece of the Mayoress, Miss Cora Hunnibell, and was then introduced to the guests. The. room was tastefully decorated with spring flowers, and a delicious afternoon tea was served. Several selections were played during the proceedings by the Bangiora Silver Band under Conductor B. Simpson. About 50 guests were present, those at the official table being her Excellency Ladv Jeilicoe, the Mayoress, Mrs D. 1 Buddo, tho Mayor, Colonel G. Young, and Major Bow. The Hector of Canterbury College and Mrs Chilton have issued invitations for an "At Home" to be held at the Canterbury College Hall next, Friday afternoon to welcome Professor and Mrs J. Adams. The East Christehurcli Swimming and Bath Improvement Committee held another very successful jazz and euchre party in the schoolroom on Saturday evening. The winners in the euchre section were Mrs Cummings and Mr P. Coulter, and the consolation prizes were won by Mrs Meikle and Mr J. Woods. A lucky number cake competition was won by Mrs Brown. The Phillipstown Kindergarten Committee held a most successful euchre party and dance last week in Eolleston street Hall, which was crowded. Euchre was played in the supper-room. The successful players were: Mrs Ball 1, Mrs Murphy 2; Mr R. Mann 1, Mr Ellis 2. Mr Bettle, the pianist, and Mr Moody, trombone player, supplied much-appreciated music. The thanks of the committee are due to Mr Bert Empsou for taking charge of the card-room, to Mr Tipping for acting as M.C. for dances, and to Mr i Moody for supplying the music.
