Chamber of Commerce. At its last meeting, the executive of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce decided that in future its monthly meetings would be open to all members of the Chamber, a hope being expressed that this would stimulate interest in its activities. Members are invited to bring up topics for discussion or to communicate with the secretary, who will bring any suggestions before the Chamber. The question of wharf sheds has been engaging the attention of the Chamber for some time past, and at its next meeting on Tuesday evening this matter will bo further discussed, and Mr A. H. M. Shirtcliff will give an address on the subject.

The Weather. The sky was heavily clouded over yesterday morning, and there was no record of frost. During the forenoon several light showers of rain fell in the town, but not of sufficient quantity to do any good to the ground, which is in a very parched condition. The atmosphere was very hazy all day, and the hills to the west and south have been obscured from vision, but those to the north-west and north were clearly visible in the forenoon. The indications are for a welcome rain in the. near future.

System of Election. At the last meeting of the Board of Managers of tho Timaru. Technical School, the matter of the system o f . election of representatives on the Board was discussed, and as a result Mr J. Scott, representing the South Canterbury Employers' Association, withdrew from the meeting, remarking that there was a feeling of animosity against him on the part of some of the members of the Board. ... A , letter was received by the Executive Committee of the Employers' Association on "Wednesday from Mr Scott, explaining the position that. Had arisen with regard to his seat on the Board as the Association's representative. Mr Scott explained that on first being introduced to the Board, when he took his seat at the July meeting, his presence there was challenged by Mr J. Donnelly. The director (Mr W. Fossey) had thereupon explained that he (Mr Scott) was a properly and legally elected member, and the conclusion then drawn was that the matter was settled. At the next meeting of the Board (on Friday last) the point was again raised by Mr G. T. Koller, and in view of the action of two members at different meetings he (Mr Scott) had taken it as a personal matter, hence his, withdrawal—from -the-.mcotifig to preserve the 'dignity of the Association. He informed the Association that if he had been legally appointed he was prepared to go back and sit on the Board of Managers. A lengthy discussion ensued, and eventually the following motions were carried unanimously:—"That Mr Scott's letter be acknowledged, and that he be informed that the Association has appointed him to the Board as its legal representative as provided for by the amending regulations of the Education Act, 1921 (relating to Technical Schools), and that this Association trusts he will continue to act thereon." "That a letter be forwarded to the director of the Timaru Technical School informing him that the Association regrets the dispute that occurred at the last meeting of the Board regarding Mr Scott's election. According to the amending regulations, Clause 2, Sub-Section 4j we maintain that Mr Scott's election is legal, and that we are only entitled to one member."

Motor-Cars in Collision. Two motor-cars met with a crash in Stafford street at mid-day yesterday, resulting in one motorist losing portions of his mudguard and running-board. Mr T. A. Blackwood was driving down Dominion Hill, and was about to turn into a right-of-way when a car, driven by Mr T. W. Soute'r, came up in the rear and crashed into the first car. The cars were locked together, but little serious damage was done, and both were able to proceed on their own power.
