In the third' heat of the 200 metres race, Carr beat' Porritt by eight yaids in 22 1-5 sec. * In the final, Scholz beat Carr by three feet. In ,the 110 metres' hurd'es Porritt won his'heaH; by five yards in 16sec 'but was beaten in-the final by the American, Kinsey, easily in 15 2-3 sec.—an Iris't recpH. . Eve (Australia) won the diving contest. NEW ZEALAND SWIMMERS. MISS SHAND AND HERD DO WELL. (Received August 14th, 10.10 p.m.) LONDON, Aogust 13. At the Tailteann Games tho chief interest w fl the meeting between Carr and Scholz, which was somewhat disappointing. Carr was obviously outc assed over this distance. Scholz caught him at 50 metres and made a characteristically dashijig finish. .fc'cholz'a time was doubted, but; after remeasurement of the track it was . declared correct. Nevertheless,'. many doubted that the. world's record could be broken on a ra : n-eodden grass track. It is believed th© time will not be officially recognised. The 200 metres swim provided a terrifio struggle between Charlton and Henry, tho former winning by a touch only. In the. 500 metres breast'3troke swim Herd (New Zeaiancft and Benson (Ireland) deadhe in their heat. Miss Shard won her heat in the women' 3 400 metres free style in 6min 42 2-ssec.
