EASTERN CABARET.

The fact that every available seat for the Spanish cabaret had been booked in less than half an hour after the opening of the plan was proof positive that the function held last night at the Art Gallery to augment the Girl Guide funds would be a tremendous success financially, but the promoter, the Hon. Mrs Taliu Ehodes, could hardly, in her most sanguine moments, have expected that the result of he'r strenuous work and splendid organisation would be crowned with such extraordinary success. The Art Gallery from 9 o'clock till long after midnight in the ballroom and the permanent gallery were thronged with hundreds of happy, laughing, jostling guests, who wcr*> having a thoroughly joyous time. The entertainment was really a repetition of the Eastern cabaret held in the Caledonian Hall some weeks ago. Judging by appearances last night everyone who attended the previous gathering and hundreds of others ; forgathered last night to join in the fun. As before, Captain Tahu Rhodes was aa inimitable Spanish waiter, who kept his army of somewhat grotesque-look-ing and hard-working staff well up to the mark Mrs Rhodes relaxed her vigilance not for one moment during the whole evening, and was ably assisted by Miss Poster and an army of Girl Guides in picturesque Spanish dress. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Jcllicoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe were present. Lady Jellicoe wore u trained gown of cameo pink souplo satin, with shoulder straps and large buckles of brilliants. The graceful sleeves and side draperies were of rose pink georgette, and from the buckles at the shoulders fell cascades of rose pink fringe. The Hon. Lucy Jellicoe wore a dainty frock of shaded -pink tulle silver tissue. Music was supplied by Bailey's Jazz Band imd Kigby's Orchestra. Excellent were the supper arrangements that were in the hands fo Mrs Jellett, and Mr Heathcote Helmore worked like an exceedingly courteous and capable Trojan, directing the guests to their seats and seeing that everyone was happy. Miss Ngaio Marsh acted aa stage manager. The following programme was greatly enjoyed: —Buechanalian dance by four pupils of Miss Mulvany Gray; pas do deux, "Can-can," from "La Bouticque," Miss Madeline Vyner and Mr Norman Batchelor; duet, "Little Red School House," Miss Audrey Cracroft Wilson and Miss Betty Cotterill; Spanish fandango, Miss I.
