EMPIRE RELATIONS.
# AN AWKWARD PROBLEM. CANADA THE FIRST TO TACKLE IT. (by cable—peeßb association— coptbigst) (Australian ajto k.z. caslb asbociatio3.) OTTAWA, August 12.
In an interview at Montreal, Sir Evelyn Cecil, British M.P. said that the utmost sympathy was felt in all quarters in Great Britain with Canada's efforts towards solution of the problem of maintaining unity of Empire together with complete liberty of individual Dominions. There need be no fear that anyone in the Old Country would resent Canada's action in raising ticklish questions as to the signing of treaties, and the extent to which these are binding on the Dominions, or that anyone there thought Canada was needlessly creating trouble. On the contrary, he thought the general feeling was that these questions had to be raised sooner cr later, and Canada had simply been the first to tackle an awkward problem.
