SOUTH SEAS EXPEDITION.
DR. BUCK TO REPRESENT N.Z. (special to "thx peess.") WELLINGTON, August 12.
The Government has selectedfDr. P. H. Buck (Te Rangi Hiroa) to represent New Zealand on the expedition to the South' Seas at the end of the year. Tho expedition is being arranged by the wealthy endowed American institution, the Bishop Museum of Honolulu, whose authorities have invited a representative of the New Zealand Government. It is proposed to visit the Northern Cook Group, and to make a study of the ethnology, measurements and dialects of the Polynesian races. In recommending Dr. Buck to the Government's consideration, the Maori Ethnological Board stated that his wide knowledge of these subjects fitted him for the position.
