SIR JOHN DE ROBECK. WARM TRIBUTE FROM LORD JELLICOE.
His Excellency the Governor-General had something to say at the farewell smoke concert tendered to him last night bv ex-servicemen, respecting his probable successor.
Lord Jellicoe said he had noticed the names of more than one naval officer mentioned in this connexion, and among the names was that of Admiral Sir John de Kobeck. . "I do not in the least know whether he is coming here or not " stated his Excellency, "but I am quite certain that if ho does come New Zealanders will look on him as three times as good a man as I am. (Cries of No No.) If it ever falls to me to suggest a successor, 1 cannot imagine anyone who could come here more ready to take part in New Zealand life from top to bottom than Admiral de Eobeek."
