GERALDINE. •V meeting of Raukapv* -a residents was hold on Monday night for tho purpose of considering tho question ot fining the resident, of tho Geralmno Downs in securing a water supply scheme. Colonel Mackenzie, chairman of the Gcraldine County Council, presided. Fcr some considerable time residents of the Downs hare bad .in view a scheme for bringing water from the Te Moana Gorge suppb tto Downs and Mr Bridges, C.E., has prepared plans for bringing water from tho gorge m three-mch pipes. , lhe downs rise nearly 400 feet_ above the town, and the people »Y* r 1 this scheme live outside die borough boundaries, as do the residents ot Kaukapnaka. It is calculated that tho 3-inch main will provide sufficient water for Raukapuaka as well as tho downs, and as the latter district is about on a level with Cieraldine borough, the residents there would have a high pressure service. It ie calculated that a rate of £4 a year for a house with not more than two acres of land and a rate of one penny and seven-eighths m tho pound on capital value of land beyond two acres, which it might be desired to supply with water, would provide interest and sinking fund for the necessary loan which it is proposed that the County Council should raise. At tho meeting the proposal was fully discussed and ultimately was unanimously approved. A poll will need to be taken on the question.
