■ — ; —<• At the monthly meeting of the Shirley Sc' 00l Committee. there were present Messrs Thompson (chairman), Ives, Salt, Stanley, "Winter, Muir and Mrs McKay. An apology for absence was received from Mr RcLb. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the month had been 641.5, and the roll number 613. Miss Kankivell and Mr h:.d left the staff and Mr Hill had been sent as relieving teacher. The chairman promised •to order t.\o l.ads of screenings, for the playground. It was resolved to raise the caretaker's s.ilary on the completion of the new building. Mr Salt Jeported having interviewed Mr Moody regarding ground .for planting" trees. The chairman and Mr Salt promised tosnrlke enquiries about suitable trees and, shrubs for the playground. A motion was carried that tha committee place on record ivs appreciation of the good work done By its chairman oji the Board of Education and congratulations on .having topped the po 1 at the Bo :rd's recent election. A letter of thanks to the ccmmitt e and householders of the d strict was received from e family in the district, who had sufiered loss through fire, for help given.
