Deective McLeed applied for a reman;!, statin# that tlioro were a. number c.i similar notes being circulated, and it \v;is desired to make fUrtlicr enquiries. The remand was granted. During the past week several neatly split notes have been passed in Gisborne.
Some limo ago an announcement was made of the intention of a number of Wellington business men to erect in Willis street, on a property adjoining the Britannia Hotel, a six-storied theatre, cabaret, and office building, which would probably liavo been one or the finest buildings of its kind ill Australasia, but for the time being the scheme has been abandoned.
