The inter-borough match, Sumner v. Xew Brighton, billiards and snooker, played in the Central Billiard Kooins on Wednesday, attracted a largi; attendance. In the absence of the Mavor (Mr J. Gamble), the DeputyM.iyor (Mr F. I>. Muirson) accorded the' Sumner team a cordial_ welcome, and apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Mayor. Bowling: Club Social. The Bowling Club held a very enjoyable social and dance in the Joyland Theatre on Thursday evening. The president, Mr F. E. Barrett, occupied the chair. The chairman extended a cordial welcome to the ladies and other visitors present. During the early part of the evening a very enjoyable vocal and instrumental entertainment was contributed to by the members of Mr J. Ii; Cocks's concert party. The following prize's won during the season were presented: —Singles: J. Ainger; 'doubles:'A. 11. James and P. E. Barrett; rinks: W. Hoolcer, R. A. Stokes, M. Pattrick. J. At the conclusion of the supper was served, after which dancing was indulged in to music provided by Miss E. Tillyshort's orchestras Municipal Band. As a means of augmenting their funds, the members of the local Municipal Band arc holding a fancy dress carnival and euchre tournament on Tuesday next. South Brighton. Matters in connexion with the proposal to erect a bridge at Bridge street; South New Brighton, were reported at a meeting of the Bridge Committee last night to be progressing favourably. Circulars were posted a few days ago with voting papers attached to every ratepayer south of Jervois street, and the committee have received replies up to the present as follows: For. the proposal, 224; against, 34. A grant for the erection of the South Brighton school has been approved, and- it .is understood the architect has been instructed to proceed with the work.
