Present—Messrs H. Hay (in tho chair), W. Page, J. £L Coffey (Christchurch Sports Clnb), A. Grigg, 11. &. McKiirca (Aehburton Sports Club), L. Dewar, J. V. McKoague (Timaru Basing Association), Major U. A. Bow and Mi T. E. llobson (Canterbury Centre). Report and Balance-sheet. Tho annual report staged that at tho annuaj conieicnco of tho ±Vew Zealand Association on" August Oth, 1922, tho New Zealand Council was authorised to appoint a ccmmittse at each of tho headquarters of tho centres into which the Dominion wa3 divided to govern tho affairs of its respective centies, working in conjunction with tho Council, the committee to remain in oirico until their Encoeesors were appointed in accordance with the rules laid down at tho conference. Tho Canterbury Centre was inetitnted.on July 2nd, 1923. From a numerical point oi view the Centre was a email one, consisting of only three local aaaociatiojfl, but .e.ritorially th* financial position as disc.osea by th» balance-sheet waa eminently satisfactory, and compared favourably with those having a far greaUr membership. The numerical weakness of the Centre and the possibilities of the formation of other local associations were matters which, in th» opinion of tho executive, could well bo discussed, by delegates, with a view to action by the inooming committee. During tli» period that had elapsed between the data of the formation of the Centre and tho closing of tho financial year (March 31st) competitions had been held aa follows: Christchurch (5), Ashburton (2), Timaru (3.1. In addition to those promotions by registered bodies, competitions were carried out by Canterbury College and tho Secondary Schools' Association. The competitions were confined to members of those institutions. The rules provided that registration should terminate on December 31st of each year. From the date of the formation of the Centre to December 31st, 1923, the amateur registrations numbered 33; in tho current year, up lo Docc-mber 31st, 192*, tho registrations numbered 57. It was a matter for great regret that tho Council of the New Zealand ooxing Association resigned in a body in May last. The reason for their action was set forth in a circular letter to the local associations, and while there might be a difference of opinion on tho question of the present etatua of tho Now Zealand Boxing Assiciation, the Council was to be commended for acting in accordance with its views. Tho majority, of the members of tho Council had given years ot most valuable service t-> the sport, and had earned for themselves tho renect.c: all good sportsmen throue'beut ih» r ' w'r.ion, for tho able and conscientious manner in which they had administered the of the Association. The operations of local associations had been carried oat very eaiisfactorily. The institution of a new system caused a littks corfuaion at the outset. but latterly everything had worked quite emoothlv. There had been an absence of friction," and tho committee waa pleascu to be able to record the pleasant relations that had existed between it and tho local associations. Great changes had come with the revival of the BDort following tho Termination of the lato war. Possibly further changsa might be brought about, but whether they were or not, the present concern of local associations and centres waa to follow tho coarse laid down for their guidance by the New Zealand Boxing AssociaTfae baiancc-eheet showed a credit balance oi £i& 9s Id np til! Anril Ist last. On the motion of Mr Mcßlws, seconaed bv Ms Dewar, tho report and balance-shee* wero adopted.

Bales Considered. The roles 6Tiggested for the Canterbury Centre were then considered. An alteration waa made to the role regarding delegates. It was provided that if only one delegate Trera nominated, or :S «oJy one delegate were present at » co=-

ferenco, that delegate should have the power to cast two votes. Tho voting powers of tho chairman wero then discussed at some length, the words "the chairman shall havo tho usual power of voting" being deleted and the following being adaed: "That in the case cf a delegate being elected chairmaiu, tho chairman shall ha-.-o ;i deliberative and a cafltins vote." Mr Pago said ho thought that a recommendation should go forward providing for tho deletion of the' rule providing l that local associations should submit applications for bouts and programmes of bouts to tho Centre. Mr McKeaguo seconded tho motion, and said that, in tho past, if associations had had to wait for the Centre to return its approval of programmes, tho date of a tourney would bo past beforo the approval was sent. The matter was not pressed. The allocation of Canterbury Centra Championships was discussed, and it was pointed out that tho rules provided that the Championships could net be held in Christchurch. It was remarked that this was unfair to Christchurch, and on the motion of Mr Page, the following rulo was adopted:— "That the Centre CiiaSipioirahips bo hold in rotation at the headquarters o' tho different associations, providing that ttio New Zealand and Centre Championships are not held at the same headquarters dhiring tho financial year."

Breeze over Appointments. Regarding a discussion which had arisen respecting tho judges appointed for tio championship tourney then being hold at Timaru, Major Row said tho secretary af tho ChrisOchurch. Sports Club had undouW edly left ont tho names of the Cnristchurcn judges from his letter. Mr Robson said ho had received lettefr3 from each of the threo secretaries—Cbristtchurcli, Ashburton, and Timaru—giviry? r «inca of the officials nominated. IVo of the ■secretaries had used one page each to cor* tain the names of nominees. The other had used a. couple, of pages. Mr Page: I consider Mr Robson is out of order. Mr Coffey: There has been a mistako somewhere; Mr McElrea said tho Chrislchurch Sports Club had blundered' and bungled the whole thing. Mr Coffey took emeption to that statement. Mr Robson, ho said, had never run;* up at any meeling that ho (Mr Coffey) had attended. Tho matter then dropped. Regarding tho appointment of refeTce aJid judges, it was decided that the referee- and judges shall be appointed by the Centre from tho nominees of local associations. In the ovent of no nominations coining forward, the Centre shall appoint whom it thinks fit. Kb judge nominated by any Centre shall officiate in any bout in which one of the contestants i 3 a representative of that centre. Mr Pasro moved that the secretary of the Centre shall be responsible for the fees and registrations of all amateurs. Mr Grigg said a. certain amount of responsibility rested w»th the contestants themselves. The secretary could not be rosponsibio for all registrations. Mr Pago withdrew his motion. Regarding the length of bouts, Mr Page said he thought they should make it three rounds each of threo minutes, and moved in that direction. Mr Grigg seconded tho motion, which was carried. Election of Officers. The following were elected the Canterbury Centre for tho ensuing year:—Miajor R. A. Row, Professor Blunt, Messrs A. Faiibairn, T. E. Robson, and V. Graham. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to tho outgoing Centre for work done Jaefc year. It was decided that the next Centre Championships b«- held at Christcmrrch, and if Christchurch secures tho New Zealand Championships, the Centre Championships will go to Ashburton. It was decided to form a Referees' and Judges' Association in the Canterbury district, comprising ail the judges and referees in that district.
