Lord Derby won the Derby with Sangovino—the first time the family has won it in. 137 years. Uot with his triumph and protected by- police, Lord Derby said to a reporter:—"The only thing I ean say to you about the race is that I am d glad, d glad. I am very proud that I am the firtt Derby to "win the Derby since 1787. I have tried hard for a very long time, and now my luck seems to have changed. It is "very fine. Everybody has been pleased, and I. thank everyone for all their kind congratulations. I am a proud mail. Let rnc Ehotr you," ho added, and opening his ovo'rcOat ho revealed a small cockade of black and white satin he wore beneath: "This was given mc at the,, Press lunch the other day. and I hare worn it since for lu'.'lr.''
