NEW BRIGHTON RESERVES.

TO THB WHTO* 0» f'THK HUSBS." Sir—The New* Brighton Council has decided to endeavour to cut up the most delightful of all its reserves—namely that portion on the esplanade between New Brighton and North Beach. The early -pioneers in their wisdom saw fit to establish these health-giving places; all around the cit. Hagley Park is one of them—. this pqrticular reserve at New Brighton another: this reserve, by, the way belongs to the people of church, as well as to the people of New Brighton, and I feel sure that the people of the city will not allow this portion of their.heritage to be disposed of without having something to say. No attempt.has ever-been made by the Council to plant ;this particular portion of the reserve. It is a most delightful spot and affords ah excellent picnic ground for thousands in the .summer. Had some of the money spent by the Council on the Pleasant Point». reserves been fjpent here, it would have been more to. the, point. I am not aware of the personnel of the Council, but I should say there" must be a land agent or two there. Hands off our heritage then. This part is the Hagley Park of Brighton, and any attempt by anyone to .sell itGlasgow lease it—or to rob us temporarily or permanently of one inch of it will be opposed to the last ditch.— Yours, ete. NORTH BEACH.
