CASHMERE PROGRESS LEAGUE.
The proposal of the Tramway Board to construct a balloon loop at Barrington street was not favourably received by a meeting of the Cashmere Progress League on Thursday evening, at which Mr E. C. Huie presided. It was agreed that Messrs C. J. R. Williams, A. F. Wright, W. Scarff, and A. F. Smith should wait on the Board in connexion with the matter. It was also decided to write to the Houthcote County Council asking it to withhold its consent to the construction of the loop on the Heathcote river reserve. Mr A. F. Wright criticised the Board's, proposal at length, and suggested that the loop should bo at Hillhyrst. Other speakers emphasised the shortness of the 3d section to Barrington street, and the profitable nature of the Cashmere line.
