Sullivan, M.P., drawing attention to the very unsatisfactory condition of things generally in connexion with the school buildings and grounds at South Brighton, Mr Glasson has received the following reply: "Interviewed Education Department to-day and received promise that South Brighton will be provided almost immediately with a good temporary school on new site." Methodist Church. The services to-morrow are' as follows—ll a.m., Rev. B. Dudley, 6.30 p.m., Rev. F. T. Read, monthly sermon to young people South Brighton Hall 6.30 p.m., Mr A. E. Lawry. Ladies' Miniature Rifle Club. A friendly match was fired on Tuesday against the Brighton Men's Junior team, and resulted in a win for the ladies. The first of the Club competitions has been fired with the following results:—Mrs Bushel 34-33, Mrs McClelland (4) 34, Mrs Bishop (4) 34, Mrs Ball (2) 33, Mrs Mashlan (6) 32-33, Mrs Stokes (2) 33, Miss Park 32, Miss McCklland (6) 32, Miss Groth (8) 32, Mrs Burmeister (0) 30. Mesdames Buschl, McClelland and Bishop each received a point for the Club pendant, and Mesdames Ball and Mashlan one each for the Tisdall brooch. Presbyterian Church. A very enjoyable evening was spent by the jjoung people of the Church in the Bible Class Room. Songs were given by Misses Lightbody and West, and recitations by Misses A. Gale and E. Hewetson. Miss D. Eaglesome acted as accompanist and organist for the competitions, and Mr V. Poninghouse directed the games. Supper was provided. ••- During the evening a Literary Society was formed, with the following officers: President, Rev. J. S. Young; director and leader, Mr F. N. Laurence; secretary, Mr V. Poninghouse; treasurer, Miss A. West; committee, Misses I. Cull, M. Lightbodv, and A. Gale, and Messrs W: Smith. J. Duncan, anef H. Thompson. At the Church to-morrow morning the subject will be "The Marriage of the Lamb," and in the evening "Robinson Crusoe's text. "The Rev. J. S. Young will conduct both services. Fire Brigade Dance. The 17th annual social and dance of the New Brighton Fire Brigade was held in the Pier Hall on Thursday evening. Amongst the visitors were representatives from the City, Christchurch Railways, and Kaiapoi Fire Brigades. The music was supplied by Miss Tilleyshort's Orchestra. DeputySuperintendent C. H. Stokes carried out the duties of M.C. For those who did not dance a euchre tournament was arranged, and the winners of the prizes were: Ladies, Mrs Seaward 1, Mrs Nankivell 2, Mrs Rodger 3. Gentlemen: —Mr H. Tranter 1, Mr Sampson 2, Mr Mellisch 3. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Dean, and Mr Nankivell.
