Talking of inflated languago, rrhich is one of the cultural evils of the time, a Taranaki paper reports that a Maori called at tne .Hawera station and pompously asked for his luggage, which; be said, consisted of two suitcases and a wicker basket. Ill© station hands searched for tho luggage described, but could not find it. Then tho traveller made tho discovery himself. Pointing to two corn sacks on a barrow ho informed & porter that they were his suit-cases. The remainder of the luggage was still mining, however, and urged bv the native, the railway people located the "wicker basket" at the Waitotara station. It was an old flax Maori kit containing a pumpkin. But whv blame the Maori ? (remarks a North Island paper). H© takes Bis tone from the European, to; whom all concerts are "gnuid," cabins "sjate rooms,'' Mid "yes's" "answers in tie affirmative."
