Representatives of the Canterbury District Council of the Workers' Educational Association and of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute will meet next week to make arrangements for the conference on educational matters which is to be held with the view of stimulating public interest in the education system of the Dominion. Infectious and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast Health District for the week ended noon yesterday, totalled 43, as follows:—Westland: Diphtheria 1. There was a good display of bunting yesterday from the flagpoles in the city in honour of the anniversary of the birthday of the Prince of Wales. Three City Councillors and Mr J. Young, Superintendent of Parks and Gardens, made a visit of inspection to the plantation reserves at Bottle Lake yesterday morning. The Councillors were Messrs H. T. Armstrong, M.P., F. R. Cooke, and J. W. Beanland. The seventeenth meeting of the Australian Association for the Advancement of Science will be held in Adelaide during the week commencing August 25th next. Dr. Coleridge Farr is the New Zealand secretary for the Association.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury Progress League takes place in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Christchurch, tomorrow, commencing with luncheon at 12.15 p.m. There are indications that there will he a very large and representative gathering of delegates from all parts of Canterbury', including South Canterbury.
