ADVANCE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION.
At a meeting of the executive of the Ashburton Association held last night, Mr A. A. McDonald presided. The Ashburton Borough Council wrote approving of the Association's scheme regarding improvements - to Baring square west. The report of the "Works Committee stated that all works recommended by the Beautifying Committee had been ■completed. '■lt was decided to ask the Borough Council if it would pipe the channel on Burnett street from west to east, so that the Association could kerb the reserve. It was also decided to ask the Council to remove the firebell tower and reel-house on the west side, so that the Association could carry out its beautifying scheme. A motion that the Works Committee have Fire Brigade ground levelled and "re-soiled • and prepared ready for the kerbing was carried. Reporting for the Finance Committee, Mr E. N. Orr stated that the Association'had a credit balance of £3OO, including £250 on fixed deposit. The expenditure during last month was about £SO. Mr P. L. Porter gave notice ,of motion: "That any member of the absenting himself from two consecutive meetings without reasonable excuse forfeit his seat, the committeo having power to fill the vacancy." Mr McDonald expressed the opinion that the office of chairman should be held for one year .only, and gave notice of motion to tha't effect.
