personal. Mr Charles R e id has been appointed the Ashburton Hospital Board's representative on the committee controlling the Waipiata Sanatorium Miss M. F. Arnott, formerly of Ashburton, has left for the riferth to connect with the Makura at Auckland. She intends making an extendod holiday abroad, and will visit Canada, England, and the Continent. Two other changes in the county staffs of the National Mortgage and Agency Company will tak e place shortly. Mr E. Burns, agent at Methven, lias been appointed to the Eakaia agency, and Mr R. C. McGregor, of the Ashburton staff, has been transferred to act as agent at Methven.

General News, A fire occurred yesterday afternoon at the back premises of Messrs Strange and Co. lhc local brigade turned out promptly, and with the help of a few employees the fire was soon quelled. A certain amount of furniture and bedding was destroyed by the fire, smolco, and water. Record entries have been received for the Ashburton Collio Dog Club's +rials to be held on the Ashburton racecourse to-morrow and 011 Friday and Saturday. This is only the second year the club lias been in existence, and to bo able to boast an entry of 140, representative of districts from Hastings, in the North Island, to Bluff, certainly reflects great credit on the committee, and shows the value of the trials. There are to be four events at the meeting. The fixture is well endowed with cash and trophies, the total of which reaches £IOO. Arrangements have been made to provide refreshments on the ground.
